Creativity doesn’t come with an expiration date. NBC Connecticut’s “CT Live” recently invited Garrison Leykam into the studio to talk with host Abbey Carnivale about Senior Rock—his growing collection of original rock, blues, country and Americana songs about what the rock-and-roll generation is experiencing now.

New Music About Getting Older—Not Oldies Music
Senior Rock isn’t nostalgia. It is new music about resilience, reinvention, relationships, health, technology, purpose and continuing to live creatively.
The project began after Garrison underwent total knee-replacement surgery on June 25, 2026. He turned the experience—walker, ice machine, physical therapy and gradual return to independence—into “Knee Replacement Blues.”
One song soon became a collection.
Titles like “Still Got Miles to Go,” “Not Yet,” “There’s Still Morning” and “No Regrets” explore aging with honesty, humor and hope. The songs recognize life’s scars without surrendering to them.
At 77, Garrison is discovering that one of the most creatively exciting chapters of his life may still be unfolding.
From One Personal Story to a Much Larger Audience
The response to Senior Rock is already reaching beyond music.
Hartford HealthCare’s Community Network and East Region have invited Garrison to participate in a Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network celebration on November 6, where he will share his knee-replacement story to the background of “Knee Replacement Blues.”
Christopher Carlin, president of the National Association of Rehabilitation Providers and Agencies, also plans to play the song during an address to rehabilitation providers from around the country. NARA’s member organizations serve more than 90,000 healthcare professionals working across the rehabilitation continuum.
These opportunities demonstrate something central to Senior Rock: a song about one person’s experience can help thousands of others recognize their own stories.
Thank You, CT Live
Garrison extends his sincere thanks to Abbey Carnivale, producer Jamie FitzGerald and the entire NBC Connecticut CT Live team for telling the story with such warmth, energy and understanding.
The celebratory high-five at the end of the interview captured the spirit of the entire project: growing older doesn’t mean winding down. It can mean beginning again.
