Honestly? We weren’t surprised. For decades, the word “geezer” has been used as shorthand for decline — a stereotype that paints aging as something negative, outdated, or irrelevant. But we believe that definition misses the truth completely.

That’s why we’re reclaiming the word “geezer.”

What Does the Word “Geezer” Really Mean?

The word “geezer” traces back to the Scottish word guiser, referring to someone in disguise or costume. By the late 1800s, it evolved into slang for an older man.

Over time in American culture, the word picked up a negative tone. But in British English — especially in London’s East End — the meaning took a very different turn. In fact, a “diamond geezer” is considered a compliment. A diamond geezer is:

• dependable
• trustworthy
• authentic
• good-hearted
• resilient
• respected

That’s the spirit we’re bringing back.

Reclaiming “Geezer” as a Badge of Honor
